North Country Libraries Kick-off Innovative Summer Reading Program!
North Country Libraries – June 15, 2020 – As North Country Libraries face continued building closures and public access limitations, dedicated directors & staff collaborated to offer an innovative Summer Reading Program.
Regional libraries are revolutionizing their approach to Summer Reading Program by partnering together to offer more services than ever before! This innovative approach allows families to participate in the Summer Reading Program by reading and earning incentives through their local library while also participating in Imaginative, STEM, and STEAM activities from any and all of our collaborative libraries!
“In a time of crisis and diminished funding due to it, a collaborative program of this nature allows our North Country Libraries to continue to provide quality library services to the community for an affordable cost. Children in Sackets can now attend a program in Sandy Creek or enjoy story time with a librarian from Canton, in addition to our own offerings,” says Library Director, Katie Male-Riordan of Hay Memorial Library in Sackets Harbor.
This groundbreaking partnership starts with an “Imagine Your Story” Front Window Challenge starting on July 6th. We encourage anyone who wants to support Summer Reading and learning to decorate their window with Fairytales, Royalty, Creatures & Beasts! Share photos of your creations online using the #ImagineStories. Parents can access printable “Imagine Your Story” Challenge Sheets through the North Country Library Virtual Branch. Children can complete their Challenge Sheets by finding matching decorated windows or by reading or writing matching stories!
“Quote regarding unprecedented nature of this kind of collaboration” says Angela Newman of Consultant Services for NCLS.

Access to library buildings may be limited this summer but Harrisville Library is committed to minimizing summer slide so that students are ready for school in the fall.
For the first time ever, North Country Libraries will be offering a coordinated summer library program, offering virtual programs for all ages online, including storytime, crafts, STEM activities, booktalks, and more!
Our summer session runs from July 6 through August 14 and can be found here: www.ncls.org/summer
We’ll be supporting student reading by offering a wide selection of e-book and e-audio titles that students can access through the Libby app. (If your district uses the Sora app, it is easily linked to the NCLS OverDrive collection.) Additionally, Harrisville Library will be making print materials available through curbside service soon as appropriate health and safety measures can be taken.
