We have some very exciting news to share about our Harrisville Free Library! At the annual NCLS meeting, we were awarded the Library Improvement Award. It was awarded to us by Paulette Roes, the Executive Director of the North Country Library System. The certificate reads:

“In recognition of the efforts of the staff and trustees to improve library services for the people of Harrisville and Lewis County, this award is hereby presented by the board and staff of the North Country Library System on the 15th day of September, 2025.”

At the annual meeting, Angela Newman gave a speech about how the staff and board of our library “have taken it (a bit of a journey over the last two years) all in stride with a can-do attitude. In addition to showing up for the community both inside and outside of library walls through their regular programming and outreach events, this library has worked diligently on compliance issues. They’ve clarified their service area with a charter amendment, added and revised essential policies, and shown their commitment to transparency by making sure that all public documents are easily accessible on the library website.”

It’s a great feeling to be recognized for the commitment, work, and dedication of our library staff and board. We did not know that we were going to receive this award, and unfortunately because of this year’s tight budget, we decided that we would not attend the meeting. We were all surprised and proud of the news. We are grateful to the North Country Library System for recognizing everyone’s hard work and dedication to our local library.

Julie Wicks, Harrisville Free Library President
